Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies;
and all the things that may be desired
are not to be compared to it.

  • The teacher was one of the nicest guys and I loved how passionate he was about Math and teaching. He was very loyal and dedicated! Email was great b/c I got all my assignments there when I was gone and test preps before every test. Mr. Myer is the BEST!
  • I thought the instructor was very enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgable. The course challenged me intellectually.
  • The course was challenging. The instructor was wonderful and very respectful and helped anyone and everyone.

The picture at right shows the beautiful fall colors in front of McKinley Hall, where I taught my first college algebra class. It was taken during the same semester (fall 2005) and at approximately the end of regular classtime (5:35-6:50 pm).

What is this website for?

Help for everyone! Find inspring fresh ideas and help for your math dilemmas!--even if you're not one of my students. At math111.com you can give me your input, and I'll try to use it to benefit you and others, too. I will be happy to tell you what I know and to help all that I possibly can. Whether it is your AP Calc exam or your Ph.D. qualifying exam, I think it would be an honor to prepare material based on your questions and to share it with you and everyone else who will come later.

Come to the Math Lab at Wichita State University in Room 371 Jabara Hall whenever you have a question. Many helpful people are there. I love to be there to do my own work and to help others with algebra, business calculus, and other classes. Feel free to ignore any of my published hours and ask me when you need help. If I am busy, I will tell you so, and ask you to return another time, or refer you to someone else. I'm happy to save you frustration by giving you the answer to a problem that has caused you a lot of trouble. I would recommend that you visit the Math Lab often and find some people, including me, who can help you understand and make studying more enjoyable!

Homework and assignments

Note: changes to the assignments may be made during class time. Attendance is important. A * means an extra credit problem. Some additional assignments may be assigned and completed during class time.

Supplies

Textbook
Calculator (optional)
A scientific calculator is helpful--if your calculator says sin, cos, and tan somewhere, that is the right kind. You do not need a graphing calculator. On some tests no calculators are allowed.
Eduspace or CourseCompass or MyMathLab (not required)
Online homework is not required. My experience has shown that paper-based homework is best, and it is also the desire of the vast majority of students I have taught. "Instant feedback" and other benefits of online homework don't make up for its shortcomings. I would rather help someone in person than send them to a computer. I really do love helping you understand the concepts and learn new things.

Quality of teaching

With God's help, and for your sake, I desire to be the best teacher you will ever have.

A record of student happiness and success

Many students have enjoyed my classes in the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Each student I care about and I hope that every one has been an example of a person who enjoyed my math class better than all other classes.

The satisfaction that students have with my teaching is best stated in their own words:

Personal committment

My first goal is to honor God by doing my best as a teacher. I want to truly benefit you and help you by being your teacher. I want to challenge you intellectually and in your life to be the best which God created you to be.

I love to teach, and I want to put you first and make a positive difference in your life. I want to be more than someone who just knows math, and doesn't know how to teach it.

Even if it means embarrassing myself and not having the opportunity to show off my knowledge, I want to do what is best for you to learn, not for me to be successful or popular.

I believe that I can also learn from you, and that I ought to be reliable and trustworthy as a good friend or teacher should be. There is great honor for a teacher in playing a special part in your life. It is a joy to me if I can serve in that way for you.

in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand
